Master Plan unveiled at CRA meeting
There was an overflow crowd at the January 30th meeting of the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). No comments were allowed from the audience as the Treasure Coast team presented a vision for redevelopment in
the Marina area, along Broadway, as well as within the city and in the CRA area of Singer Island. This portion of the presentation covered a new split of the road coming in from the bridge, forming a V near where the Greater Gator and gas station currently stand. Those interested in seeing the details can visit http://www.rg4rb.org/TCRPC_plan10-07.htm. At this moment, the plans do not appear to be online as promised, but information on the charette public input meetings has been posted.
While many seemed impressed by the vision expressed in the presentation, questions remain. For example, where are the builders ready to commit to low density buildings as recommended? Why did Treasure Coast only learn about the truck traffic numbers from the Palm Beach Port on Martin Luther King Boulevard the night of the presentation? For residents here on the Island, the question is how realistic is the proposed road change and new construction in the current real estate downturn?
Since this is only the first phase, the CRA must debate and decide whether or not to go forward with this plan. In the past, the city government has looked at, and debated about, plans to revitalize Riviera Beach and Singer Island. Now we will have to see how much is accomplished.
